The wetlands of North Queensland come alive after the rainy season, providing an abundance of bush foods. The waterlily plants are a favourite food source among Aboriginal People. The woman and children were mainly the ones to collect the lilies, which were considered a delicacy. The stems and bulbs were eaten. Freshwater turtles were also a rich food source that could be kept until the following day.
