Acrylic on termite hollowed eucalyptus stem 141cm

Description

Didgeridoo stems are collected by tapping the sides of tree saplings to test if they emit a hollow sound. They are then collected and the centres cleaned out of the loose
material left by the termites. The bark is then removed usually leaving a smooth surface that leaves little further preparation before painting. Termites are heat sensitive and will only hollow out a tree up to a certain point below the exterior before they leave and move on to the next tree.
