Description
Split rock is a major sacred land form in Luke’s country. When lightning struck the rock it created living things and released knowledge for the Bama(Aboriginal people). The centre panel of the triptych shows the lightning spliting the rock. The smaller figure towards the bottom is Imjim a thunder and lightning Quinkan. The larger figures above him are the Bama gaining knowledge. The hands and the fire spark shown on the side panel denote further gaining of knowledge through the use of fire. The decoration below the hands is ceremonial body paint
The salt water animals, fish and plant featured in the left hand panel are dugong, stingrays and the Mangrove Jack, which are swimming amongst the mangrove roots. The right hand panel features the fresh water turtle and land
