Description

When a man dies his Spirit travels to the west away beyond the Mitchell River. The Sprit travels swiftly and straight like a wild duck to the Good Gate. This gate is guarded by Big Uncle, a spirit who stands in the relationship of father’s brother to everybody no matter who you are. After passing through the Good Gate the new Sprit is fed and dressed up by Good Uncle. A big dance is held to welcome the new Spirit and young girls come from everywhere and he can marry as many of these girls as he wants. After the dance Big Uncle breaks every bone in the new Spirit’s body so that he can never run away from the spirit centre.
