Description
Willie was born at Nutwood Downs Station in Alawa Country. Moima was born around 1935.
The figure of Gudang is a recurring subject in Willies’ paintings and he is shown in the middle panel at the top of the painting. Gudang was an important ceremonial man and was responsible for maintaining the rock paintings in his area. He was probably Willie’s uncle. The painting is a narrative which is suggested by the twelve sections within it. It takes you on a journey of public initiation and circumcision. The panels are repetitive and suggest recurring themes in a song cycle with a reiteration of dance, image and song in circumcision ceremonies.
